The Reign of Spain has begun!

After being held in check for most of the tournament, Fernando Torres finally broke through with the most important goal of his illustrious career.

The Liverpool striker broke free in the 33rd minute a notched the only score Spain would need, although they continued to threaten the German goal the entire match.

Constantly befuddling the defense, the rhythm and flow of Spain swamped any German efforts to go forward.  While leading the tournament in goals scored, Spain refused to bunker down and protect their slim 1-0 lead against the usually powerful German counter attack.  Wave after wave of creative and daring attempts at goal were barely swept away as Germany desperately tried to stay above water.  Rarely has a 1-0 match of teams of this caliber been so dominated by the victors, as Spain rarely looked threatened.
